The book trains the eye
He said understand the mind of the person who hid it. Then: you might find clues scattered through these pages. Then, in the acknowledgments, a dare: the best treasures hide in plain sight — sometimes between the lines of an acknowledgments page. Read for how he hides and how to look. A creek named in a chapter is memoir until the poem puts you on water of that kind. Not a claimed find. The poem: twenty lines as published. Scene pictures stay on scenes. Full plate dump on photos. Photos he posted of Fenn's box: Posted.
What everyone else does
Harvesting every capitalized place and driving there is Fenn. Running the MAGYAR clock table on memoir hours (10 p.m., 7:39, 2 a.m., 10 a.m., 3 a.m., noon) spells OEIOMMA. That is not a word. Both are everyone else. This page is the other pass.
He told you
Introduction
Here’s what I learned after a decade of treasure hunting: it’s not about the gold. It’s about understanding the mind of the person who hid it—their story, their obsessions, the places that shaped them.
The memoir is the method. The poem is still the key.
Introduction
You might find clues to my treasure scattered through these pages. You might just find a story about a kid who never quite grew out of his treasure-hunting dreams.
He planted them. He will not caption which sentences.
Acknowledgments
The best treasures, after all, often hide in plain sight—sometimes between the lines of an acknowledgments page.
Go back and read that page for what is not named. Privacy for the living is deliberate.
Dedication
thank you for being my north star.
A person, not a ski hill. Ursa / north is already in his language before the poem.
In the box and on the page
Second pass. Objects he printed. MAGYAR on kitchen hours was nothing. The poem is still the walk.

What lives in time
The Treasure · chest photo, Dave Clawson
Can you find what lives in time, / Flowing through each measured rhyme?
He put a pocket watch in the box and photographed it. Roman face, in the open, next to the dragon bracelet. That is a clock he chose. Not Mom’s kitchen 7:39.
Closed: Do not treat 7:39 or OEIOMMA as a second MAGYAR. The watch is in the inventory picture.

A foot on the bar
The Treasure · PAMP kilo close-up
Her foot of three at twenty degree
Serial 0523. Carbon-footprint stamp — a single bare foot. Maker’s mark on a PAMP bar, not a map. He still chose this close-up. The only foot in the book besides the poem.
Closed: Do not GPS 0523. The stamp is a certification logo. The choice to print the foot is the clue-shaped fact.

ANDO — a missing letter
The Treasure · his pride and joy
In those four simple letters lies a quiet act of defiance, a whispered declaration of independence decades before the Revolution.
1652 Oak Tree shilling, ANDO variety: Anno Domini cut to four letters. Finest known, Ford collection, in the box. He wrote more about that missing N than about any creek. The same plate says NEW ENGLAND and MASATHVSETS — the East. There is no Ando, Montana. Anaconda is a mine town and a snake-movie joke. Do not drive to Boston.
Closed: Not a Western toponym. Missing-letter method. The coin’s map is the wrong coast.

Granite with an eye
Acknowledgments · Photo by Dave Clawson
River boulder, a hole that reads like an eye, tiny chest at its foot. How he wants granite seen: water, a face if you look, something small at the base. Not a claimed hide.
Closed: Do not treat this bank as the find. FAQ already killed mines, structures, and night search. The picture teaches looking.

His back in the meadow
Introduction
He stands with his back to you. Same pose as both ARKADE jackets. The poem says return her face — a physical turn. He is showing you the pose to undo.
Closed: Do not GPS the meadow. The instruction is the turn, already in stanza 3.

The dog on the stone
The Treasure · after the four-soul compass
Tucker standing on granite, one paw on the rock. MAGYAR already named the breed / the box. THWU 9 Apr 2025: the bronze Tucker statue is about 70–80 lb — container family, not this photographed slab. The live dog teaches looking. Do not metal-detect the picture.
Closed: Container language, not a drainage. Do not metal-detect the slab in the picture.

He maps by looking
The Treasure · Grandpa Fitzwater
Binoculars, tree, horizon. The warden scans. Spreadsheet is the curse he wrote against in Rearview Riches.
Closed: Family, not a trailhead pin.
Gracie’s $6 map — shop purchase, not the Steck sheet
The Gracie Grail
Lift and turn, sweetie. It’s trickier than my husband’s alibi.
Book: a late-nineteenth-century hand-drawn map, $6 at Gracie’s Antiques in Dillon. Apache territories in faded ink, folded until the creases cracked, Dragoon Mountains in trembling lines. He still unfolds it. He never printed the sheet. The 1860 Steck Apache Agency two-panel (inverted DRAGOON labels, lift-and-turn) is a lookalike we found — not confirmed as the map in the shop. Gracie’s line is spoken as he wrestles the shop door, not as a caption of that analog.
Closed: Do not treat the Steck manuscript as his map. Do not cache at Cochise Stronghold or the town of Dragoon (fee, mines, structures). He has not identified the $6 sheet.

The bride and groom
The Tender Tornado · September 1979
Caption: Mom and Dad, aka the bride and groom. Summit already said her face = the bride, and return her face is a physical rotation. The poem’s bride has a family picture.
Closed: A person in a picture, then a face you turn toward on granite. Not a church.

The bear is on the back
Gold heap · 2016 Bold Black Bear reverse
In ursa east his realm awaits;
Unique coin in the pile. Reverse: the bear, head to the viewer’s right. CANADA up = looking east. Flip: her face (Elizabeth). Raeb = the reverse. Ursa east is the prize, not a heading. Do not go to the mint.
Closed: American West hide. Ottawa is not the place. Return her face is the turn on granite.
Also planted
Dedication vs The Sleep Study
Dedication north star is a living person — Justin said so, last meaningful thing he wrote. Dad is a different North Star, and he dies in the book. Two stars.
Acknowledgments
People he will not name. Your fingerprints are on every page. Between the lines is the unnamed, not a code.
The Treasure, after the poem
Like four points of a compass: Brandon, Dad, Grandpa, Tucker. Then he hands you the instruments — Dad’s wisdom as a guiding light, brother’s wonder as your compass, Grandpa’s resilience, Tucker’s tail. Wisdom waits is that toolbox, not a town named Wisdom.
The Redington Requiem
He pushed a granite monument for Brandon until his hands bled. Granite is labor and love, not a picnic table.
London Bridge
Grandpa carved his name on the stone. The real London Bridge was moved; the name went with the rock. Method: the name lives on the stone. Do not drive to Lake Havasu.
The Concrete Kiss
His nose leans left. He calls it his misfortune compass. A compass that is not true.
Rearview Riches
Kid in Walmart clutching a compass like it was the key to every mystery. Mom pulls him to soccer. The fire dies. That is the curse.
The Tender Tornado, 1979 caption
Mom and Dad, aka the bride and groom. The poem’s bride has a human picture. Summit: her face = the bride; return her face is a physical turn.
The Treasure
Tibia breaks in May. Hide finished gimpy. About sixty pounds. Other items shouldn’t be mentioned until they’re found — the inventory list is incomplete on purpose.
treasure.quest / Dillon
Hardcover vs ebook interiors: intentional, astute readers. Idaho/Utah Big Hill, Grandpa 83 vs 86, Doc 1940 vs 1949, 6½ vs 3 miles — he called those mistakes or narrator error. Spine D between printings is designer spacing, not a clue.
Kind of ground
Pictures he printed, and what he said. They do not name a coordinate. Poem consecutive. Seekers Summit: return her face is a physical rotation; boots at stanza 4. Official: public, 24/7, no fee, not a building, mine, or cave. He has not named the stone.
What the plates agree on
What the photographs actually show: walkable bank or meadow, granite you could stand next to, mixed conifer, grass or willow, small trout water. That is the book’s eye. It is not a pin.
They do not agree on: Fee parks, lodges, docks, mines, caves, buildings — official kills, not a taste test.

Clawson boulder
Keep · type
Round hollow like an eye. River behind. Chest placed on the grass. Strongest hole-in-stone. Type, not a GPS.

Tucker on granite
Keep · granite
Wet lichen slab in larch and pine. Kitchen-to-table. Feel of the rock, not a skyline.

Snout Scout meadow
Keep · wall
Open grass, table-cliff / mesa wall, scattered boulders. Most specific wall in the photos. Book never names the meadow. Do not GPS it.

Introduction meadow
Keep · turn
His back. Lone pine. Distant snow. The pose you undo.

Aft Assault creek
Keep · water
Shin-deep, willows, wet stone, fallen logs. Hop-across trout water. Generic as a pin, exact as a type.
Last-mile class
Hop-across trickle
Aft Assault is the only full walk / pole / hole / false-bear sequence. Thick brush, opposite shore, circular window — you do not look straight-on. A “bear” that is a badger. Tear in the waders. Entry sentence “south of the post office turnoff” is not the granite.
Wet granite after rain
Crystal Park: pine smell, sparkle in washed soil. How granite shows. Not the fee lot.
Eye-hollow
Clawson boulder. Hole in kitchen-scale stone, quiet river, paired ribs on the far cliff. Tutorial.
Double arcs
The book never describes them except in the poem. Rainbow over the Sacramentos is an arc in sky, not granite. NGC slabs are plastic. On-site only.
Bears are bodies
False bear, sow and cubs, bronze statue that stood guard, grizzlies on a bank, bear guardians. Never “go east.” Ursa east names the prize on the reverse of the gold.
Directions
East is reserved
West, north, and south are wallpaper. True east almost does not exist until the poem spends it once: In ursa east. The other east is Saguaro National Park East on Mom’s house.
The only “right direction” question
Conquistador: staff at the sun, exiting stage west. Are we going in the right direction? They feared Mexico. They got Mom’s face in the glass. Home was the other way.
The only northeasterly
Rod Race. Chase a few hundred feet, weeds, four feet down, then they circle back. Clark Canyon reservoir is not the box — underwater, ramps, dam. Indian Head is two miles west of that shore: wrong heading, face-tutorial only.
Compass he hands you
Four departed souls after the poem: Brandon, Dad, Grandpa, Tucker. Wisdom is Dad’s toolbox. Wonder is Brandon. Not NSEW. Kevin clutching a compass as “the key to every mystery” is how the fire dies.
From the left vs from the right
Bride and groom caption starts from the left. Posey/Martin elders start from the right. How you start the picture decides whose face you get.
Lift and turn
Gracie’s line is spoken as he wrestles the shop door. The $6 map is a late-19th-c. hand-drawn Apache / Dragoon sheet he still unfolds. The inverted Steck panel is not confirmed as that map. Return her face stays a physical rotation in the poem (Summit) — not a rotation of an analog we picked.
Even lines are verbs
They sit between the poem’s two em-dashes. Not towns.
Walk near waters’ silent flight.
Near quiet water. First imperative between the two poem dashes.
Not a hike to Wisdom.
I wait for you to cast your pole.
Rod Race: he waits, the rod goes, they retrieve it.
Not a pole as a coordinate.
Return her face to find the place.
Short, local: prodigal rod, rattles in the palm, boys back from the desert. Official: physical rotation, not as far as people think. Not a confirmed rotation of the Steck analog.
Not another state. Not Cochise Stronghold.
Wonder guards this sacred space.
Childhood runs on wonder, not wisdom. Place and sacred space are not necessarily the same.
Not Wisdom, MT.
What you seek, you already know.
It was there all along. After the second dash, the walk is over.
Not a remaining gazetteer pin.
Book vs what he said
ursa east
Lowercase on the poem page on purpose. Summit: only worry about “ursa east” as one phrase. The book already gave you one phrase, not two Ursas.
The poem is the key
That slogan is on treasure.quest, not in the EPUB. The book prints the twenty lines, then “hidden somewhere here.” Intro only promises scattered clues.
Cipher / technical clue
Hunt cipher is not a book puzzle. MAGYAR is clocks / container. Technical clue is the song, not the memoir. Hyram’s ciphers and Fenn iron→brown are other objects.
Hardcover vs ebook
Astute-reader interiors are intentional. Idaho/Utah, 83/86, spine D are mistakes or designer spacing. 1940/1949 and 6½ vs 3 miles: asked, answers not in the dump — do not spend them as clues.
Don’t hassle the living
Acknowledgments already. Poem bride is not a person you can interact with. Dedication north star is a living person he will not name.
Killed as the box
Clark Canyon / south ramp / Camp Fortunate
Only northeasterly is a boat chase four feet down. Underwater out. Ramps and dam. He ranks reservoir fishing with dental surgery. They circle back.
Piegan Pass, Glacier
Photo-matchable crest he recrossed after hip surgery. NPS fee park. He faces the camera — opposite of the meadow back.
Mount Lemmon
Sky-island life zones you can match from the highway. Childhood Narnia. Ski lift is a structure. Arizona contrast, not hide ground.
Upper Rio Grande arrow rock
2015 Fenn walk. Footbridge plus a rock that pointed. He rummaged until sunset and admitted defeat. How not to read the poem.
Rincons
He names them and says he will never hike them that way. Grief country. Saguaro East fee.
$100 truck (I-25 west of Trinidad–COS)
Proves image-ID is on purpose. Not the chest.
The Beast canyon / White Sands / Cloudcroft Lodge / Yellowstone snow
Wrong biome or built. Fenn-era or family architecture.
Cameron Lake (AB/BC/MT) / Akamina / See Creek
Taylor’s Fenn solve, not Justin’s hide. 2.5 km glacially-fed lake, south shore Montana, underwater cache. Parks fees both sides, docks, visitor centre, grizzly, paddle, rescue. Live bear guardians ≠ ursa east. Title is fold-em.
Cochise Stronghold / Dragoon Mountains as the hide
Fee campground, summer close, mines and ghost towns in the range. Town of Dragoon is a night-drive name. The $6 shop map is not confirmed as the Steck sheet, and this is not the hide either way.
Nine Mile Hole as Posey hide / Probability Paradox cirque selfie
Text is Fenn-year Madison at Nine Mile: wall of pines, fallen log, autumn. NPS fee, in-water hole, brother temple already. Plate is a different unnamed alpine cirque — he faces the camera, high cliffs, talus. Do not GPS the selfie. River-as-metronome is the poem gloss, not a pin.
Redington Pass / Redington Mountains
Grief requiem for Brandon. Sonoran ochre, weathered mountain faces, granite he pushed as a monument — labor, not kitchen-slab after the turn. Pass sits between Catalinas and Rincons (Rincons already killed). Saguaro East nearby fee. Desert biome. Don’t hassle a death place.
Mountain Memory dock / unnamed brook
Text is an unnamed babbling brook in hush pines — type-water, no toponym. Plate is a different place: wooden dock on a wide lake, he and Tucker backs to camera. Docks already on the disagree list. Do not GPS the pier. The turn is for the dog; around-the-bend is grief, not a Hole pin.
Victorio Peak / Hembrillo Basin / White Sands Missile Range
Childhood gold legend told on an Alamogordo porch. Cave, military range, not public 24/7. Dad: some things are better left undisturbed. Plate is a family dirt-road with cliff wall — unnamed, not the peak. Origin story, not the hide.
Saguaro NP East / Mom’s Tucson dirt-road house
Childhood brick house at the end of a dirt road. The only other east in the book. Fee park. Hide-in-plain-sight is a horse. Beaverhead plate is Mom’s river — family water, willow banks, not a pin.
White Sands NP dunes / WSMR tour / Animas mine
Gypsum dunes are named and photo-matchable — and already on the disagree list. Fee park. Missile-range tour, visitor center, Building 7: structures, restricted, they get caught. Grandma: Dad snuck an old mine in Animas. Mine out. Not the hide.
Oro Valley saguaro walk / Oregon Coast plate
Kid desert from Mom’s house. Stacked rocks + cactus arms are Hyram’s dubious ciphers — how not to read land. Staff points west; right direction is home, Mom’s face in glass, 7:39 already closed. Oregon Coast railing is Pacific, not the West hide. Desert biome.
Tucson vacant lots / Tanque Verde / Agua Caliente
Kid grid-search with a detector on empty lots. Neighborhood, desert heat, .50 cal from a 1944 B-24. Found while looking for something else. Detector where banned is already FAQ. Not kitchen granite. Not the hide.
Bellevue forest trails / tree-lined boulevard
Derailed Duo. Daily Tucker + bike loop, then Thanksgiving-Eve hit-and-run on asphalt. Named Bellevue — Seattle’s prim cousin. PNW suburb, pavement, structures. Patagonia vests are clothing, not Patagonia AZ. Same Washington life as Bronze Beast / Novelty Hill. Not American West hide ground.
Dad’s Tucson backyard / Oak Island globe
Conservatory jammed into a desert lot. Structure. Tropical plants are built, not native. Oak Island / Nova Scotia is the kid hunt on the wrong ocean — same class as ANDO: do not drive east. The saguaro-slope plate and the nap dirt road are unnamed Sonoran type, not the backyard sentence. Do not GPS them. Desert biome already disagree.
4,500-mile hide loops / Tucker granite plate
The Treasure: two off-grid West trips, each >4,500 miles; first dry, second hide; he went farther than needed. That is scent-throw, not a route to retrace. The mossy slab under Tucker is unnamed kitchen-size granite — type, already in KIND_OF_GROUND. Caption is the dog dedication. Do not GPS the dog. West+Alaska map is memoir gazetteer; “somewhere here” is the bound, not an X.
Patagonia AZ funeral / Alamogordo Space Camp / south forty
Grandma’s Hands. Modest Space Camp is a building in the grandparents’ town. Funeral in Patagonia, then Dad’s study — indoor, dying light. “South forty” is a burden sentence, not a mapped forty acres. Garden gate is private. Bedrock/fog/crystal are memory metaphors. Don’t hassle a death place.
Novelty Hill woods / car-wash bronze bear
Bronze Beast. Six-mile western Washington loop: ferns, cedar, pond, muddy trails, a road, a sow and cubs. The bronze that “stood guard” is a life-sized statue by the town car wash — already on the disagree list. Structure, town, PNW suburb. Same Washington life as Derailed Duo. Live bear is not Ursa. Ferns and tree-base nooks are how he trains Tucker to sniff bronze, not kitchen granite.
Tucson monsoon backyard / patio-umbrella crank
Stormy Stakeout. Private lot, fence, porch eave, 2003. The silhouette is a crank at a precise distance and angle. Step back 15 feet and it becomes a man; step in and it evaporates. False face. Structure. Not hide ground.
Forty Niners / Tanque Verde Wash bike loop
Concrete Kiss. Named Tucson golf course on Dad’s nightly ride. Mesquite, saguaros “standing guard,” fallen cottonwood hollows at the wash, asphalt “Big Hill.” Cartoon: crash, raccoon in a tree, golf flags, generic mountain silhouette — type, not GPS. Face is his on pavement. Sow is a raccoon. Hollow is wood. Idaho vs Utah is errata. Private fairways, pavement, desert, east-Tucson already killed with Saguaro East. Not hide ground.
Iron Springs stream-split / Prologue last hunt
Prologue. West Yellowstone, August 2018. Nine Mile grid, then Iron Springs: trailhead, stream split, one path deeper, rocks, cold water, log lunch, clearing through trees. Fenn-year NPS fee, in-water search. Plate is The Beast on slickrock canyon — different biome, already disagree. Last week with Brandon. Not hide ground.
Grandpa Posey’s gravel driveway / unseen mailbox
Postal Pilgrimage. Same Alamogordo orchard-edge house already in Treasure Tempest. Long gravel gauntlet, mailbox you cannot see from the house, two rattlers, dust. Private. Cartoon is type: prickly pear, yucca, fence, shovel. Photo is Grandpa indoors. ‘Granite silence’ is a man, not a slab. Justin: deeper message, not a core hint. Finish the walk, rattles in the palm. Not hide ground.
Niven ranch / west fence of White Sands Missile Range
Paternal Ploy. Neighboring ranch on the backside of the Range. Overcast Saturday, front gates, cattle, west-side fence ‘less security.’ They never walk it — rancher says the last group hit MP radar at once. Dad already knew the door was shut. Private, trespass, military. Name maybe Niven (Justin: interesting character, that’s all). Face is the rancher’s wrinkles, not return her face. No plate. Not hide ground.
Dad’s Tucson raccoon garden / cottonwood beyond the fence
Bandit Banquet. Same east-Tucson house as Dad’s House / Concrete Kiss. Scorched desert, thirsty saguaros, tomato garden, patio, cottonwood past the fence, chimney flue. Named Tanque Verde Elementary (already Liberators). Cartoon is indoor kitchen, crescent moon — not GPS. Wonder not wisdom is the kid rule, not a pin. White bowl behind the garage is a keep, not a bank. Private, desert, structure. Not hide ground.
UP stretch west of Maricopa / toward Yuma
Midnight Menace. August 2000, moonless Sonoran night. Mom on a Z train ~100 miles from Tucson, west of Maricopa, ordered to a siding, then on to Yuma. License plate in desert sand; pickup later in Phoenix. Tracks, locomotive, railroad ROW. West is wallpaper, not ursa. Cartoon: engine 7670, saguaros, rails — type, not GPS. Photo is Mom on a locomotive (structure). Violence, Native-land false path. Don’t walk the rails. Not hide ground.
Night chapter log
The Jinxed Joint
Piegan Pass is a real, photo-matchable saddle. Fee park. Not hide ground.
Reluctant Roommates
Mount Lemmon: saguaro → grass → oak → ponderosa. How he reads a mountain from the basin up. Not hide ground.
The Snout Scout
Arrow rock on the upper Rio Grande is a failed Fenn tell. Tucker meadow photo is unnamed — do not GPS it.
The Living Legend
Rincons named and declined. Uncaptioned horse-ridge is warden eye, not a pin.
The Fitzwaters
Dillon outskirts, Blacktail through willows, Crystal Park pine+wet granite after rain, Bannack slouching, Coolidge crumbling to the north, Big Hole crystal water, Jefferson pine banks. Named and walkable. Crystal Park and Bannack are fee; ghost towns are structures. Method: how granite shows. Not a pin.
The Aft Assault
Postcard Grasshopper Valley: Pioneer flanks, Big Hole beside, rolling hills, dark Milky Way, Polaris, hop-across trickle, thick brush, opposite shore, south of the PO turnoff. Photo is shin-deep type-water, not a GPS. Circular window is refraction, not a hole in rock. False bear is a badger. Ranch pie is private. No granite, no kitchen-stone, no northeasterly. Method of a small-water walk. Not a dig.
The Rod Race
Only northeasterly in the book: south ramp of Clark Canyon, Red Rock inlet, rod a few hundred feet NE, four feet down in weeds, then they circle back. Submerged riverbed in wet years. Grandpa reads the hidden channel. Photo: Jennie, Grandpa, sage hills — no granite. Reservoir, ramp, underwater, they return. Method of pole + hydrology + a short chase, not a land bearing. FAQ kills the lake as hide.
Trailside Troubles
Grandpa’s cabin in Comet Mountain’s shadow (structure). Sawtooth Lake: 1957 crash, then crystalline golden-trout water; sun over the Pioneers; float tube. Unnamed moonlit side-lake with a sow and cubs. 100 feet from camp to the lake; 6.5 miles down a charred trail through a fire. Photo is cabin interior. Cartoon is type-alpine, not GPS. High, on-water, dangerous, private cabin. Sacred gold is a trout flash. Not hide ground.
The Bait Bonanza
Heron Lake, NM: sapphire at 7,000 ft, campground, cliffs with petroglyphs + Spanish land-grant markers, Sangre de Cristos watching. Photos: RV camp, boat-trailer shore, boys on a reed-and-rock pile. Fee state park, ramps, picnic tables, pole in the depths. Rainbow is water off a sack, not granite arcs. North Star here is a family lake, not Ursa. Method: rabbit in the sack, empty hat. Not hide ground.
The Treasure Trail
Fenn-year method, not Posey hide. Baker’s Hole camp, Airstream in pines, aspen at Silver Gate, creek in Sawtooth Mountain’s shadow. Dawn steam on Madison/Gibbon/Firehole. Iron Springs: picnic, backtrack, under the bridge, silence, Secret Valley threshold. Nine Mile: deep sheltered pocket, one-two anglers, brother temple. Highway Hole: roadside pipe + guardian mountain + road noise (wrong for rest). Harlequin: dense forest fortress. $100 plate is I-25 prairie — image-ID, not the chest. NPS fee, picnic, in-water holes. Consecutive-water template only. Do not harvest Nine Mile as the poem’s Hole.
Posey Land
Basin-to-mountain: Alamogordo up to Cloudcroft, Sacramento Mountains, Cloudcroft–Mayhill–Sixteen Springs. Dad calls public FS ‘Posey land.’ Lodge is a Victorian on the ridge (structure, already killed). Posey Cottage = museum shed. James Canyon 1909 cabin: pine slope, fence, chimney — heritage, not hide. Bonito Lake: picnic-table retreat, thirty minutes from anywhere, Dad names trout. Gift-shop wooden bear is not Ursa. No kitchen-stone, no northeasterly. Family NM, not the box.
The Grizzly Gathering
Blackfoot coffee after a storm; Plan B: North Fork near Ovando, between Bob Marshall and Blackfoot Valley. Cut banks, deep pools, log jam, chest-deep wade, truck at a bridge. Real grizzlies (three+), a charge, a flimsy gate. Photos: raft on high water; Gary + logjam; bear in a flower meadow under a spruce wall. Named and matchable as type. Dangerous, in-water, not kitchen granite. Ursa here is a live bear — not the coin. Not hide ground.
The Curious Confluence
Fenn recon list, almost no painted terrain. Santa Fe / Collected Works (structure). He tells Forrest: Boiling River, Gardiner, Devil’s Slide, Hebgen, Yellowstone. Next: Gallatin, Tetons, Taos Pueblo, Ojo Caliente. Names only — no sentences you could match on a bank. Photo: first tracks, opening morning, lodgepole and deep snow, he faces the camera. NPS fee, winter, opposite of the meadow-back. Title is two hunters meeting, not two rivers joining. Gazetteer, not hide ground.
Poseys on the Road
Night pilgrimage Tucson→Alamogordo. Plate: rainbow over Sacramento mesa-cliffs from the grandparents’ front-row view — sky arc, not granite (LAST_MILE already). Texas Canyon named, not painted. Highway towns: Dragoon, San Simon, Lordsburg, Deming (good water, fast ducks never seen). Private orchard view, not a walk. No kitchen-stone, no northeasterly. Double arcs stay on-site granite after the turn.
The Gracie Grail
Dillon antique. $6 late-19th-c. hand-drawn Apache sheet: Dragoon Mountains in trembling lines, creases, he still unfolds it. He never printed it. The 1860 Steck two-panel is a lookalike — not confirmed as the shop map. Gracie’s “lift and turn” is the shop door. Not hide ground.
The Dubious Decision
Most matchable unlogged water in the book: Cameron Lake, glacially fed, 2.5 km south across the U.S. line, Akamina Parkway closed after fire, burned-out bridge, treeline, See Creek BC→AB (toponym unconfirmed on maps), abandoned visitor centre, grizzly-caution sign, bear guardians, paddle to Montana shore, cache underwater, dawn return, eight miles trailless. Cartoon is rescue type, not GPS. Dog-quill photo is not the lake. Taylor’s Fenn attempt; Justin never walks it. Fee parks, underwater, structures, danger. Know-when-to-fold. Not hide ground.
The Probability Paradox
Named: Nine Mile Hole on the Madison, autumn. Wall of pines grown up around them; river churns beyond as a metronome; fallen pine as Brandon’s perch; kid and father at the river’s edge casting; pine branch whip across Justin’s face, resin, needles; towering pines made old paths harder. Live gloss on “Like a river’s steady flow.” Plate is not that bank — unnamed alpine cirque, cliff faces, talus chute, he faces the camera (“You okay up there?”). Text is matchable as Fenn Madison; photo is matchable as type-cirque, unnamed. NPS fee, in-water hole, Fenn-year. Do not harvest as the poem’s Hole. Not hide ground.
The Redington Requiem
Named Sonoran canvas, ochre and umber, dust. Redington Mountains loomed — weathered faces, silent teachers of endurance. Merciless sun. Where Brandon’s journey ended. Hawk’s cry. Wind-sculpted canyon is a grief simile, not a named drainage. He pushed a monument of granite; the boulder crept. No plate in the chapter. Range is matchable as Tucson-east skyline (pass between Catalinas and Rincons). Granite here is a memorial he labored, not kitchen-stone after the turn. Mountain faces ≠ return her face. Desert, death place, Saguaro East fee nearby. Not hide ground.
The Mountain Memory
Unnamed. Mountain hush, crisp air, trees in silent reverence, babbling brook, stream’s bank, familiar trails. He turns for Tucker’s paws; mortal eyes fail. Poem echo: took half my soul around the bend; trails vacant. Plate is not the brook — wooden dock, wide lake, forested far shore, he and Vizsla backs to camera (same undo-pose as intro meadow). Type-water in the prose, not a pin. Dock is a structure (disagree list). Dear to his heart is the dog, not a coordinate. Not hide ground.
The Treasure Tempest
They never walk the peak. Porch in Alamogordo: pecan orchard at town’s edge, Sacramento Mountains as a forested island over desert, pine in the air, dusk, cicadas. Named: Victorio Peak (cave), Hembrillo Basin (gold bars hidden), White Sands Missile Range — sea of white sand outside of town. Dad: better left undisturbed. Plate: elders on a two-track, cliff wall behind, caption from the right. Photo is matchable as type-canyon road, unnamed; not Victorio. Cave, military, dunes, not public. Origin story. Not hide ground.
Mom’s House
Tucson: brick house, dirt-road end, Saguaro National Park East as stoic sentinels (then Monument). Hide in plain sight on a horse. Dillon plate: corral, white horse, distant mountains — ranch, not a bank. Beaverhead plate: Mom wading willow water, hills behind, the river she loves most. Named and type-matchable as family trout water. Saguaro East is the book’s other east (not ursa). Fee park, private house, corral. Beaverhead is Mom’s water, not a dig. Method: plain sight. Not hide ground.
The Tour Trap
They walk a public WSMR tour, then try to get lost toward Building 7 / classified research — visitor center, sign, MPs. Never reach Victorio. Plate: Brandon and Justin carving gypsum dunes at White Sands National Park — named, photo-matchable, dunes already disagree, fee. Grandma: Dad snuck an old mine when they lived in Animas. Restricted, structures, mine, dunes. Third-time’s-a-charm is the kid, not the hide. Not hide ground.
The Conquistador Conquest
Named Oro Valley (gold whisper). They walk: shimmering desert, congregation of saguaro, stacked rocks as fake Spanish code, bone-dry earth, sun exiting stage west, coyote, wind in cacti, four miles, starlit canopy, house on the purple-twilight horizon. Staff at the sun; ‘Are we going in the right direction?’ — they feared Mexico; home was the other way. Mom’s face in the glass, 7:39. Plates are not the walk: Oregon Coast fog/railing (Pacific); indoor cowboy studio. Type-Sonoran, not a pin. Desert, house, ciphers. Method of wrong direction. Not hide ground.
The Digging Debacle
They stand it: wrong side of a chain-link fence, squinting at distant peaks. Night bikes toward White Sands Missile Range — floodlights, combat-boot night, turn back. Death Valley is a snowball simile, not a walk. Plan B: tunnel from the edge of Grandpa’s Alamogordo property — uniquely shaped rocks, gopher, modest crater, bedrock, a hole they couldn’t dig out of. No plate. Peak silhouette from the fence is type-matchable, not public. Restricted, mine/cave already, backyard hole. How not to hunt. Not hide ground.
The Lost Liberators
Dad’s Tucson: empty lots, desert heat, desert wind, grid-search with a White’s. Named: Tanque Verde Elementary (now Emily Gray), Agua Caliente Park (typing class, not a bank). Bottle caps, sun-bleached pennies, two .50 cal — later a 1944 B-24 mid-air, pilot blinded by the same desert sun. Sun as humanity’s primary timekeeper. Plate: Dad + boys on a grassy lot, trees, hills, garage — neighborhood, not wilderness. Cartoon: kid, detector, bullet, sun, Liberators. Found while looking for something else. Detector, lots, desert. Not hide ground.
The Derailed Duo
Named Bellevue. Tucker + bike on forest trails, then Thanksgiving-Eve homestretch on a tree-lined boulevard — hit-and-run, asphalt on the cheek, bike twisted. Late sun, bare branches, woodsmoke chimneys, breath-ghosts in November air. Plate: Vizsla in a harness on gravel/asphalt, leaf litter, Bontrager bar; caption is the Attenborough gag, not a toponym. “Patagonia vests” are squirrel clothing, not Patagonia AZ. The turn is a bike lean Tucker reads first; face is the dog’s nose after the crash, not return her face. No granite, no trout water. PNW suburb, pavement, structures. Same Washington life as Novelty Hill. Not hide ground.
Dad’s House
Tucson backyard: dawn cardinals, a conservatory of caladiums and bougainvillea jammed into arid neighborhood. He points at empty air, then builds it; visitors must touch the leaves to believe. Method of looking, not a coordinate. Oak Island / Nova Scotia on the globe is pirate gold on the wrong ocean. Plates are not the yard: unnamed Sonoran rock slope with saguaros (Dad + boys with sticks); dirt-road nap with yucca. Catalog “Old Frontier / Hardy Boys” caption is magazine bleed, not a toponym. Slope is a cliff, not kitchen slab. Private house, desert, already killed with Mom’s House / Liberators. Not hide ground.
The Treasure
Hide-frame, not a walk. Two off-grid American West trips, each >4,500 miles; first dry, second hide; he traveled farther than needed. Neighbor driveway (May, asphalt, tibia) is home, private. Fenn dragon bracelet in the Rockies is the old cache. Meteorite is in the box. Dear-to-his-heart + not perilous is the constraint. Compass after the poem is four people, not NSEW. Map: West + Alaska, caption “somewhere here” — memoir gazetteer (Dillon, Polaris, YE, Heron, Alamogordo, Tucson…), not an X. East Coast is off the sheet. Only stand-there ground: unnamed mossy granite under Tucker (kitchen-to-table, already KIND_OF_GROUND) and an unnamed man-at-a-tree plate (catalog mis-captioned with the Tucker blurb). No named creek, no northeasterly. Do not retrace the loop. Do not GPS the dog. Not a find.
Grandma’s Hands
Alamogordo Space Camp (modest, not Huntsville) — building. Garden gate, tomatoes, jackrabbits: private orchard-edge house already in Treasure Tempest. Drive home like a dream highway. Funeral in Patagonia, AZ; next afternoon Dad’s study in Tucson — sofa, dense carpet, late sun, dust motes, halo in her hair. “South forty” is a suicide/burden line, not a walk. Bedrock that trembles, rocks in fog, crystal mind, lighthouse: memory metaphors, not granite after a turn. Constellations are her pointing hands. No plate in this chapter. Structures, private, grief. Don’t hassle a death place. Not hide ground.
The Bronze Beast
Named Novelty Hill, western Washington. Six-mile evening woods: ferns, cedar, pond, muddy trails, a road, then a sow and cubs. They burst onto asphalt. The bronze that stood guard is a life-sized statue by the town car wash — cartoon already KIND_OF_GROUND disagree. Puppy plates are indoor / car, not land. Hide-and-seek is he hides freeze-dried liver, Tucker finds — bronze-sniff training, not a hide pin. “Rounded the bend” is Jennie on a dog path. Recited Fenn line is the old hunt. Live bear is not Ursa. PNW suburb, structures, town. Same Washington life as Derailed Duo. Not hide ground.
The Stormy Stakeout
Tucson 2003 monsoon. Chemistry-teacher backyard, mud, lightning, wood fence, porch eave. A “man” at ~20 yards is a patio-umbrella crank. Retreat 15 feet, turn back, he materializes; step in, he evaporates. Precise distance and angle. Cartoon: closed umbrella, crank, disposable camera. Private structure. Seeing lesson already in book-clues (crank handle in the storm). Not granite, not public 24/7. Not hide ground.
The Concrete Kiss
East Tucson, Dad’s house loop. Named: Forty Niners golf course, Tanque Verde Wash. Evening bike path: cooling desert air, mesquite, muted light, saguaros standing guard, fallen cottonwood at the treeline with hollows, raccoon sow, desert stars, asphalt Big Hill (Idaho speed-bump joke — FAQ errata). Crash on pavement; Dad’s dually down the pristine fairway / back nine; teeth gathered later into a jar. Plate is cartoon: hill, crash, raccoon, golf flags, generic mountain — not GPS. Face is his on concrete, not return her face. Hollow is wood. Sow is not Ursa. Private course, pavement, desert. Method: go back and pick up what was left in the open. Not hide ground.
Prologue
West Yellowstone, August 2018. Named: Nine Mile Hole (GPS grid in forest, mosquitoes), Iron Springs (tomorrow’s theory; they walk it). Camp: pine smoke, Airstream, maps, dark pines in the window. Dawn: empty campground, sun barely over the trees, crisp almost-fall air. Drive through forest, sunlight in leaves, a clearing through the trees, riverbed sediment down below. Trailhead. Hike: twigs, distant rush of water. Iron Springs: rust and mineral scent; stream splits, one path deeper into forest; kneeling at the water’s edge; fingers in cold water; stream, rocks, sun glinting like scattered coins; log by the water for lunch; bank, shadows, endless sky. Matchable as YE Fenn water — already in Treasure Trail / Nine Mile kills. NPS fee, in-water, last hunt with Brandon. Plate is not that bank: The Beast on slickrock canyon above a big river (Mike Key) — canyon already disagree. Do not GPS the truck. Method: ‘maybe the next one’; Xs mark days with his brother. Not hide ground.
The Postal Pilgrimage
Unnamed in-chapter; it is Grandpa Posey’s Alamogordo driveway (pecan orchard at town’s edge — Treasure Tempest). Sahara-hot, no sidewalk, no civilization in sight. Gravel-strewn gauntlet; mailbox invisible from the house; dust cloud; ‘Rattler’s Lair’; two rattlesnakes from both sides of the drive meet at his sneakers; crunch of gravel; shovel. ‘Granite silence’ is Grandpa, not rock. Photo: Grandpa on a sofa, trophies — indoor. Cartoon: gravel, prickly pear, yucca, fence, two rattlers, shovel — type, not GPS. Private. Justin called the chapter meaningful for a deeper message, not a core hint. Method: finish the walk; rattles handed, never explained; jar on the shelf thirty-five years. Same house already killed. Not hide ground.
The Paternal Ploy
Alamogordo visit. Named only as a neighboring ranch on the backside of White Sands Missile Range; west side along his fence line, less security. Overcast spring Saturday, sky sulking. Front gates as ‘portal.’ Rancher (maybe Niven, or ‘Gnarled Oak Come to Life’): face a topographical map of sun and wind; 18–20 keys on a brass ring; cattle scent. They stand at the door, never walk the fence. Last group on MP radar at once. Drive back: desert rolling by, every line of fence a mockery. Grandparents’ driveway. No plate. Restricted, private, trespass. Dad already knew. Method: a door that was shut. Face is wrinkles, not the turn. West here is wallpaper, not ursa. Not hide ground.
The Bandit Banquet
Dad’s Tucson backyard, ’90s. Named: Tucson, Tanque Verde Elementary (sun-scorched brick, dust-deviled windows, javelinas on the playground — already Liberators). Garden: ravaged tomato plants, summer sun, saguaros thirsting, tin-can alarm. Hawk in a fence. Neighbor barbecue, raccoons on the roofline. Patio in liquid moonlight; lawn chairs; weathered white bowl; sliding patio door. Cottonwood beyond the fence (Brandon’s apology). Chimney flue sealed. Years later the bowl behind the garage, scars like rings in a tree. Plate is kitchen cartoon: fridge, cookie jar, raccoon ladder, crescent moon — indoor, not GPS. Wonder not wisdom (already EVEN_VERBS). Masked bandits are raccoons, not Ursa. Private house, desert, structure. Same lot as Dad’s House / Concrete Kiss. Not hide ground.
The Midnight Menace
August 2000, moonless. Named: Tucson (he listens from a bedroom), west of Maricopa (~100 miles, lonely UP tracks, Sonoran night, desert wind), siding she never reaches, continue to Yuma, license plate in desert sand, pickup in Phoenix, shooter claims Native land further down the track (false path). She steps out into desert night, vest a beacon, whisper of wind, silence. ‘Between Maricopa and destiny’ is a stretch of track, not a hole. Photo: Mom on a locomotive, flag — structure. Cartoon: engine 7670, saguaros, desert hills, kid with lantern on the rails — type, not GPS. West is wallpaper. Rock that hit the engine is a wrong guess. Method already: smallest discarded object IDs the story; logs mean nothing if you never download them. Rail, desert, violence. Not hide ground.
How he hides and how to look
Mom’s House
Hide-and-seek on a horse, in the open. Seekers walked past. Hiding in plain sight while dangling from a neck.
never knowing the best hiding spot swayed before them
Mom’s House
A birthday hunt of parchment clues ended in a blue cardboard chest. He cannot remember what was inside. He remembers the moment before you know.
That exquisite tension between what is and what could be.
Dad’s House
He pointed at empty air in the backyard, then built exactly that. Visitors would not believe the plants were real until they touched them.
Only after touching the supple leaves would they be forced to believe.
The Fitzwaters
Crystal Park after rain: wet granite shows what was hidden. Not a picnic-table pin — a way of looking at stone.
We’d arrive after each downpour when the soil, newly washed, revealed its bounty.
The Postal Pilgrimage
Don’t move. I’ll go get the shovel. Then he hands you the rattles and never explains.
the love we tried so hard to protect was there all along, disguised as a jar of rattles on a shelf.
The Bait Bonanza
Years of Byzantine traps. The trick was a gunny sack. Complexity was the disguise.
They were admiring the empty hat, missing the rabbit sitting in plain sight.
The Gracie Grail
He bought a $6 late-19th-c. hand-drawn Apache / Dragoon map at Gracie’s. He still unfolds it. He never printed it. The Steck sheet is not confirmed as that map.
Lift and turn, sweetie. It’s trickier than my husband’s alibi.
The Concrete Kiss
Go back to the spot later and pick up what was left in the open. He jarred the teeth.
The Treasure Tempest
Family gold retrieved, then re-hidden. Some things are better left undisturbed.
The Peak Pursuit
A restricted mountain is not a hunt you can walk. If they won’t let you join, launch your own — on public ground.
Rearview Riches
The curse is not the gold. People stop looking.
They trade their treasure maps for Google Maps.
The Lost Liberators
Found while looking for something else. .50 cal on the shelf, identified years later. The sun as humanity’s primary timekeeper.
the most remarkable discoveries come when we’re looking for something else entirely.
The Tender Tornado
The rule said no handheld catcher. He wore it. Rules are riddles. Watch the circular flow. Peripheral vision.
Look rep, no hands!
The Weepul Winners
If the rulebook does not forbid waiting, transferring, combining — you may. Silence is golden.
The Minority Mix-up
He checked Native American because he was born in America. A label read literally sends you down a false path for years.
The Midnight Menace
Justice on the smallest break: a license plate in the sand, a rattled bolt. Precision logs mean nothing if you never download them.
The Aft Assault
Light slows and bends. A fish sees through a circular window. You do not look straight-on. You look from the shore refraction allows. Surface wake is a fingerprint of what is under.
a circular window
The Stormy Stakeout
At a precise distance and angle the monster was a patio-umbrella crank.
the thing we understand so clearly might just be a crank handle in the storm.
The Rod Race
Grandpa rowed to the exact spot over a hidden stream bed you cannot see from the bank. A thermometer on a cord found the layer. Gadgets missed it.
Grandma’s Hands
Search for truth in anomalies. Define the rule by its exception. Recognize bedrock by the way it trembles. She pointed out constellations.
The Bronze Beast
He hides. Tucker finds him. Liver under ferns and in nooks at the base of trees. Make it challenging.
The Snout Scout
An arrow-shaped rock told him to dig. Wrong tell. Last bronze piece buried deeper than the rest. Sit and stare means here.
Where is it?!
The Obsession’s Oath
Some codes can only be deciphered by leaving the constructed system. Not just mental acuity — physical presence.
Things he still has
Jar of rattlesnake rattles, labeled, thirty-five years
The Postal Pilgrimage
On the shelf. A timestamp of a walk he was made to finish.
Jar of teeth from the pavement
The Concrete Kiss
He went back and gathered what was left in the open.
Gracie’s late-19th-c. hand-drawn map
The Gracie Grail
Apache territories, Dragoon Mountains in trembling lines. Folded until the creases cracked. He still unfolds it. The 1860 Steck two-panel is not confirmed as this sheet.
Old white bowl behind the garage
The Bandit Banquet
Battle scars like rings in a tree.
.50 caliber rounds
The Lost Liberators
Shelf objects. Only later known as B-24. Found while looking for something else.
Pink Panther Umbrella Award
The Stormy Stakeout
On his desk. The crank that looked like a person.
Twelve aged bronze bits (Tucker’s cache)
The Snout Scout
Gloves so it is not his scent. Last piece deeper. Sit and stare.
This hide
The Treasure
Two trips, each well over 4,500 miles. First is a dry run. Second is the hide. He traveled further than necessary so the trail would lie.
A place dear to his heart, personal lore and secrets, significance not peril. Retrieving it will not require Indiana Jones.
He broke a tibia finishing the hide. He calls himself a slightly gimpy Long John Silver.
Other items… perhaps shouldn’t be mentioned until they’re found.
Dedication: Brandon; Dad and forebears; Grandpa Fitzwater — you carved your name on the London Bridge; Tucker.
Caption on the map: The treasure is hidden somewhere here.
The Legal Lowdown
Abandoned 2023, western United States, legally accessible then. Land status can change.
No night searching. No detector where banned. No trespass. First legal physical possession.
A digital fingerprint of the location was posted. Move the box and the hash changes.
Half a Bitcoin private key in the chest, half with a steward who does not know where. Thirty days to contact the steward.
Chapter by chapter
Slow order. A place-name in a fishing story is how he paints a day, not a pin.
Dedication
- North star is a person who saw past his fear.
Prologue
- Grid searching the same ground hoping for different results is the obsession he is leaving.
- The Beast. Iron Springs with Brandon. Maybe it’s the next one.
Introduction

- Beyond your comfort zone. Beyond your map’s edge.
Acknowledgments
- Plain sight, between the lines of this page.
- People close to him are unnamed on purpose.
Mom’s House
- Hide in plain sight on a living horse.
- Parchment clues. Blue chest. The prize is the moment before discovery.
- Mom fishing the Beaverhead — a photo, not a pin.
Dad’s House
- True West and Hardy Boys as sacred texts. Open cases.
- He builds what he points at. Touch to believe.
- Bird feeding at dawn, continued at Justin’s house.
The Fitzwaters
- Blacktail Deer Creek as a classroom in patience.
- Crystal Park after rain, wet granite.
- Christmas noble fir. North star again at the close.
Poseys on the Road
- Time the mile markers. Don’t trust the speedometer.
- Deming: good water and fast ducks — family trivia, not a duck hunt.
Posey Land
- Think like a trout. They’re always watching.
- Stories grow until they can hold everything he needs them to.
The Postal Pilgrimage
- Finish the walk. The rattles sit on the shelf unlabeled by speech.
The Conquistador Conquest
- A dubious book of Spanish symbols. A walking stick he called a wizard’s staff.
- Are we going in the right direction? The staff hits the glass at 7:39.
The Bait Bonanza
- Plain sight. The hard part was looking hard.
The Gracie Grail
- A $6 hand-drawn Apache / Dragoon map he still unfolds. He never printed it.
- The Steck Apache Agency sheet is not confirmed as the shop map.
The Concrete Kiss
- Go back. Gather what was left. A nose that leans left — his misfortune compass.
The Treasure Tempest
- Gold re-hidden. March 5, 1940. Some things left undisturbed.
The Peak Pursuit / Digging Debacle / Tour Trap / Paternal Ploy
- Restricted, mines, public-tour-then-get-lost, and a door Dad already knew was shut — all the wrong kind of hunt.
- Eighteen to twenty keys on a brass ring. A kid with a compass as the key to every mystery.
Rearview Riches
- People stop looking. Google Maps is the curse.
The Lost Liberators
- Looking for something else. Artifacts from different eras as a puzzle.
The Tender Tornado / Weepul Winners / Minority Mix-up
- Rules are riddles. If it isn’t forbidden, you may. A box checked too literally is a years-long false path.
The Midnight Menace
- The smallest discarded object IDs the whole story.
The Aft Assault
- Refraction. Circular window. Right angle, not straight-on.
- Place names in this chapter are how he paints fishing with family. They are not a solve by themselves.
Trailside / Stormy / Rod Race
- Night hike to be there at sunrise. Precise distance and angle. Hidden bed under the lake. Twenty-seven inches.
The Living Legend / Grandma’s Hands
- Grandpa mapped wilderness. I AM QUITE DEAF. She pointed at stars. Anomalies, exceptions, trembling bedrock.
The Bronze Beast / Home Depot Hound / Snout Scout
- He hides, the dog finds. Last piece deeper. Sit and stare. An arrow rock can lie.
The Curious Confluence
- Fenn, to him: looking in all the right places. Someone will find it, not by chance. You know the poem and you’ve read my book.
- You can judge a man by his eyes.
The Treasure Trail / Probability Paradox
- His Fenn method: kitchen table first, then can an 80-year-old walk it, private land, wrong feel, grid last. That is how he hunted Fenn. It is not a copy-paste for this hide.
- $100 to the first person who can tell me where this was taken.
The Treasure
- Dear to his heart. Further than necessary. Long John Silver on a broken tibia. Other items unmentioned until found. London Bridge. Map caption: hidden somewhere here.
- Pocket watch in the chest photo — what lives in time. PAMP kilo close-up: foot stamp, serial 0523. ANDO shilling: a missing letter.
- Four departed souls as the compass: Brandon, Dad, Grandpa, Tucker. Wisdom is Dad’s, not a town. Tucker on granite. His back in the meadow. Clawson boulder with an eye.
The Dubious Decision
- Know when to fold. Ten essentials. Tell someone your plans. Heed the signs. A Fenn-style wet rescue is the cautionary tale.
The Mountain Memory
- Tucker. Babbling brook, cast a line. Took half my soul around the bend.
The Legal Lowdown
- No night search. Location fingerprint. Half a key in the chest. Steward does not know the pin.
